The Wetlands Education Program is Back!

May contain: flower, petal, plant, purple, dahlia, anemone, and anther

Students have enjoyed MVSD’s Wetlands Education Program program for over 25 years and the District is excited to bring the program back for the 2023-2024 school year with a new educational partner, The Gardens at Heather Farm.

Founded in 1971, The Gardens at Heather Farm is a non-profit organization whose mission is to educate the community about being good stewards of the environment. For over 38 years, they have provided environmental science education to students in over 300 schools in Contra Costa County. Their experience with tours of water treatment plants, field trips to Los Vaqueros Reservoir, and a knowledgeable staff who are passionate about education and the environment makes them a perfect fit for the Wetlands Education Program.

Local students will continue to benefit from a curriculum that aligns with California education standards as well as increasing awareness, appreciation, and understanding of the wastewater treatment process, and its effects on the local wetland habitats and the wildlife they support. The experience remains complimentary thanks to various grant programs, private donations, and revenues from MVSD’s cell tower and billboard leases.
