Emergency Sewer Calls
For a sewer emergency 24/7, call 925-228-5635
If you are reporting a sewer backup or overflow incident, please notify the District’s Offices , 24 hours a day, at 925-228-5635. District’s On-Call staff will respond to the reported sanitary sewer incident after hours. Please follow phone message prompts for sewer emergencies.
Please have the following information ready for the District representative to expedite the response: Name, Business Name, Address, Phone Number, Address or location of the overflow and all conditions you are experiencing. If you are experiencing a backup into your business please remain calm, remove all persons from the area. If sewage has overflowed inside the business, shut off all heating and air conditioning (HVAC) units. Do not attempt to remove any affected items from the area. If the Mt. View Sanitary District is found to be responsible for the incident, we are committed to cleaning and restoring your property, and to protecting the health of those affected during the remediation process.
USA North (Underground Service Alert) is a free notification service for homeowners and contractors who are going to perform any kind of excavation. Call 811 before you dig and find out if there are underground utilities at your site. Legislation in California makes it mandatory to call at least two days before digging.

Recycling…… It’s Good for Business….. It’s Good for the Environment
You can recycle a variety of paper in your mixed paper recycling dumpster.
- Newspaper and corrugated cardboard boxes.
- Computer, ledger and copy paper of all colors, junk mail, magazines and phone books
- Chipboard products such as the back of paper tablets and containers such as shoe and cereal boxes.
Metal, Glass, Plastic Beverage Containers
Please place in your recycling cart all clean and dry glass, metal and plastic containers including:
- Beverage, soup and other food containers made of aluminum, tin and steel.
- Glass bottles and jars of all colors.
- All plastic containers with symbols #1 through #7. Remove tops before placing in the recycle cart.
Please no light bulbs, cookware, window glass or mirrors and no aerosol cans or aluminum foil.
Household Batteries and Fluorescent Bulbs
Recycling batteries and fluorescent bulbs prevents heavy metals and mercury from polluting the Bay Area’s Waterways. All types are recyclable, including alkaline (non-mercury), nickel-cadmium, nickel-iron, nickel metal hydride, lithium-ion, carbon-zinc (non-mercury) and zinc-air batteries such as, but not limited to, AA,AAA,C,D,9-volt and rechargeable (cell phones, toys, power tool batteries), standard 4-foot and 8-foot straight lamps and circular and tubular lamps that are being used in place of incandescent bulbs in household lighting fixtures.
These can be recycled at the Household Hazardous Waste Collection Facility, 4797 Imhoff Place, Martinez. Businesses are required to make an appointment. Click HERE for more information.
