Fall is Here

A rake and a shovel on a leaf-covered sidewalk.

Fall is here and the leaves are changing colors and falling to the ground. Leaves in streets and gutters add higher than normal nutrients and lower than normal oxygen to local water bodies which can negatively affect the ecosystem. They are also the leading cause of localized flooding during rain events due to their blocking of the storm drains. Always rake leaves and place them in yard waste containers or better yet, use them for mulch or compost.
